This quaint but truly comfortable cottage is located in the attractive village of Morebattle in the heart of the Cheviot Hills. Footpaths to suit all abilities abound in the area. The historic abbey town of Kelso is 7 miles away.
The cottage has a lounge with feature wall fire and flatscreen TV with free view and Blu-ray DVD/CD player. A twentyfirst century central heating system, combined with high quality designer raidators, insulation and sympathetically designed windows make for a really comfortable stay at any time of year. Leather covered revolving armchairs and matching leather footstools are there to help you relax after a day of walking, golfing, site seeing or exploring. The dining area is already prepared for your first meal and the Welcome Basket with Borders specialities (such as Hutton Barns eggs, locally made chocolate, Laprig Farm Apple Juice and homemade jam) awaits you. There is a small wine rack with wine for sale and an ice bucket.
The newly equipped kitchen has all modern amenities including washing machine and microwave. The small courtyard to the rear of the cottage is reached through the kitchen and has table, chairs and bbq for Summer evenings.
From the lounge there is a beautiful cast iron spiral staircase that takes you up to the double bedroom with a second wall mounted television. You have the choice of duvet or blankets. A large airy bathroom (with an electric shower over the large bath) has stylish radiator and a separate heated designer towel rail on which to warm the fluffy Egyptian cotton towels and face flannels. Hand made soap, produced for Border Holiday Homes by Purity Soaps of Berwick is provided.
Outside there is off road parking for one car. One well behaved dog is welcome.
The village pub is about 150 yards away and serves bar and restaurant meals and some good beer and the village village shop for basic groceries and papers is close by.
What to see in and around Morebattle
St. Cuthbert’s Way (the footpath from Melrose to Lindisfarne – Holy Island) passes the door. This is an absolutely fantastic walk of 63 miles so not to be undertaken lightly. The stretch around Morebattle is not difficult and has some of the most beautiful hill and river scenery in the country as well as taking you through some lovely villages. More information can be found on http://stcuthbertsway.net
The Pennine Way finishes in the next village and crosses the Border into the Northumberland National Park
A trip into Kelso (7 miles) is well worthwhile. The Cistercians set up a monastery here to develop their sheep farming and the ruined abbey, next to the Tweed, remains a place of pilgrimage. Floors Castle, just outside the town is open to the public and also a really lovely place.
Lovers of the works of Sir Walter Scott will want to visit his beautiful home, Abbotsford, near Galashiels and the abbey town of Melrose,
Try Teviot Smokery for something a bit out of the ordinary and a gourmet experience. It has been said of them that if you can eat it, they’ll smoke it! In fact, the food served there is very special and the water gardens and plants are of equally high standard.
A beautiful ride over the Lammermuir Hills will take you to Dunbar, the birthplace of John Muir, founder of the American National Parks. There is an interesting harbour here and two golf courses. Gifford and Garvald villages, in the Lammermuirs, are good for a refreshment stop and very attractive, too. On the way down from the hills, divert to the distillery of Glenkinchie, the only remaining malt distillery in southeast Scotland, between the villages of East and West Saltoun.
